WhatEvery1Says (WE1s) project uses digital humanities methods to study media discourse about the humanities at large data scales. Our hypothesis is that digital methods can help us learn new things about how the humanities have been portrayed in public discourse. Funded by A $1.1 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, for 2017-2020 WhatEvery1Says is a collaboration between the University of California, Santa Barbara, California State University, Northridge, and the University of Miami. The CSUN team included not only myself as Co-PI on the grant, but two faculty members and nearly twenty current and former students, collected and analyzed millions of articles from news sources and social media. Our outputs included key findings and recommendations, as well as data and tools for implementing our digital methods.

The project ran from 2017-2021. For more information, read “Our Story & Our Results” and our original Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Prospectus on the project website.
